A message from the President – Apprenticeship Academy
As President of the Yorkshire Builders Federation I would like to draw your attention to the following opportunity.
In order to address the major skills shortages in the industry, particularly affecting the professional/technical areas, Efficiency North (a member of the NFB) has established an Apprenticeship Academy run from our offices at Sovereign Court, Sheffield where we are delivering an innovative apprenticeship programme in partnership with Leeds College of Building.
Apprentices participate in a two year programme where they study on a block release basis for Level 3 qualification in Construction and the Built Environment whilst working on hosted assignments with contractors / consultants in order to enrich the apprenticeship journey. As an industry led academy programme we include supplier / contractor led targeted CPD sessions alongside professional mentoring to ensure that the apprentices get a fully rounded training and development package.
Typical apprenticeship roles include civil engineers, site managers, quantity surveyors, investment programme managers, building surveyors etc. The study programme aligns to professional body progression routes.
Our apprentice cohorts start September 2018, we already have filled one cohort (12 – 16 apprentices) and are close to filling the second with only four places to fill. The cost of the apprentices to the host is fully inclusive of recruitment costs, wage, travel allowances, course materials, insurance, learning provider fees, learning management, host / placement management, professional mentoring and pastoral care.
Essentially, the contractor/consultant simply needs to provide the position / opportunity and we do the rest. Recruitment takes place locally and can be done in line with the host.
Through the apprenticeship EN:Able Futures CIC, as a registered Shared Apprenticeship Service with the CITB, is the Employer. This ensures a stable working arrangement for the apprentices. However, if you are happy to offer employment to the apprentice at the end of the programme you can do so without any transfer or finders fees.
The Academy alongside its more traditional award winning shared apprenticeship programme will allow you to not only build your workforce but also fulfil social value criteria within project tenders.
